It was a sad moment for me when I read that Newsweek had officially retracted their Periscope article on prisoner abuses at Guantanamo Bay. It was a sadder moment for the so-called “free and independent press” and for American democracy. For those of you who haven’t been following the story, it’s really pointless for me to try to do it justice here. The Daily Kos and its readers have reported it faithfully, among some other very good blogs like Talking Points Memo and Amercian Street.

I like to see humor used in the face of arrogance. Humor is the pin that deflates power-hungry blow-hards every time. And this response from a reader at dKos, Dave Riegel, Bushhater was among my very favorites:

“The ___ has had serious consequences,” McClellan said. “People have lost their lives. The image of the United States abroad has been damaged.”

Ladies and gentlemen, I have removed a word from Comrade Scottie’s sentence. Should it be…

a) illegal war
b) president
c) disrespect of Islam
d) interrogation policy
e) total lack of truthfulness or diplomacy

It’s the kind of thing I’d like to see on the late night talk shows and all over the print media, nationwide…
