I am neck-deep into writing and researching the inflence of the ultraright wing in modern culture. It’s very much like seeing a palimpsest emerge, with the first and strongest lines emerging around religious intolerance, torture, and dominionism. To do it justice I’m going to have to serialize it. My goal is to release the first part tomorrow.
For today, I’d like to refer you to just one or two of some really good diaries at DailyKos. First, there’s Diane’s excellent post which reminds us, in time for Memorial Day, about the deaths that the Defense Department doesn’t consider worth tracking.
Here’s another by mhojo that contains a few inaccuracies, but by and large covers something you may wish to know. Judge Says Parents Can’t Teach Pagan Beliefs to their Child. I don’t know how this judge decided that his ruling was constitutional (it clearly violates religious freedom statutes), but given the quality of judges being appointed to federal courts these days, it’s something every citizen ought to know.
Lastly, please pick up on the Quote of the Day, below. Given the research I’ve been doing recently, I would love to see it disseminated even to Pope B16 himself.
Quote of the Day: Reprove yourself if ever [...] your own short-sightedness should do you the disservice of making you want to force all my servants to walk by the same path you yourself follow, for this would be contrary to the teaching given you by my Truth. –God, to Catherine of Siena
