All legitimate self improvement programs share one thing in common: All must provide the student at least some level of understanding of, and control over, their own ego. In fact, it’s virtually impossible to achieve any degree of self realization (improvement in self understanding) without it.

But the ego can be a subtle and slippery customer. It loves to remain unnoticed and hates being caught in the act of controlling some aspect of our lives. So I thought it might be helpful to expose a few acts in which the ego has been caught engaging:

IF you think things go better the more control you maintain over them — that might be your ego.

IF someone “just made you angry” — that might be your ego.

IF s/he is just so immature! — that might be your ego.

IF you just hate doing things twice (three times, four times, five times . . .) —that might be your ego.

IF you think so-and-so’s life would straighten itself out if they’d just take your advice —that might be your ego.

IF it really bugs you when things don’t live up to your expectations — that might be your ego.

IF other people’s crap really gets on your nerves — that might be your ego.

If you’re really proud of your spiritual development — that might be your ego.

IF you’re the most evolved person you know — that might be your ego.

IF you understand all that already — that might be your ego.

IF everything just has to turn out a certain way or the event “is just ruined” — that might be your ego.

IF nobody can do things as well as you can — that might be your ego.

If it’s always about youthat might be your ego.

IF you’re the best conversation piece you know — that might be your ego.

IF it’s always someone/something else’s fault — that might be your ego.

IF your answer is the answer and others just need to accept that — that might be your ego.

IF you’re always ready with one better than the last speaker — that might be your ego.

IF the other political side is always up to something (bad) — that might be your ego.

IF you’re more interested in making your point than hearing the point being made — that might be your ego.

IF you hate change — that might be your ego.

IF others “just need to accept your boundaries” — that might be your ego.

IF your life is one big struggle to attain/maintain control and stability — that might be your ego.

IF that’s just WRONG!that might be your ego.

If you have any that might be your ego sayings that have stood out in your personal development, let me know and I’ll publish them here in a future installment.
